The Snapshot

What's there to see from a photographer's point of view?

A lot when you visit beautiful Marquette, MI.
Here are some of the top must-see locations.

Wetmore Landing is located off of County Road 550, about 10-15 minutes from Marquette. It’s just past Sugarloaf. There is a parking lot as you drive in and then the walk to the beach is a few minutes. It’s a lovely sandy beach along Lake Superior. I’ve caught some amazing sunrises here. You can also take a hike around. After Wetmore Landing, you can continue on to Little Presque Isle which is just down the road on your right.

Little Presque Isle is located off of County Road 550, about 10-15 minutes from Marquette. As you drive in, you have the opportunity to park at the lot just to the left as you enter. I recommend that you keep driving about a minute or so to park at the other lot. Once you park, you have a few options. You can head out to the beach toward your left as you drive in, wade over to the island or find a trail to walk around. If you choose to explore the island, make sure you pick a calm day. My favorite is to hike off toward the south of the parking lot. There is a trail that will take you right along Lake Superior and offer some amazing views.

MARQUETTE, MI.

Sugarloaf Mountain is located off of County Road 550, about 10-15 minutes from Marquette. There are two parking lots. The first parking lot is larger and the one that I would recommend. It’s a 1.4-mile loop trail. I would recommend packing water and snacks. You will be climbing stairs toward the end. I’ve walked it and even decided to run it one morning. Once you make it up there, you can see Little Presque Isle. It’s an amazing view of Lake Superior. It’s one of my favorite spots to catch the sunrise if you can time it right. After Sugarloaf, you can continue on to Wetmore Landing which is just down the road on your right.

Presque Isle Park is a must see in town. We go there to cliff jump, to walk out on the break wall, to hang at the beach, and to walk or drive around to catch the gorgeous views of Lake Superior. You may even catch a freighter. There is a spot called sunset point where you can catch a beautiful sunset.

Downtown Marquette is where you can find the Ore dock. Once you’ve made it there you will notice a paved path that will take you along the water. There are beaches to hang out at McCarty’s Cove and South beach depending on which direction you walk. You will run into spots to get coffee and grab a meal. If you head into town, along Washington or Front streets, you will find restaurants, bars, shops, and much more. You will enjoy the beauty and what Marquette has to offer!
